The Collaboration for Community Change (C3) enhances collaboration among nonprofit organizations to develop greater cost efficiencies and program effectiveness. The project targets high functioning non-profits working in health, human services, education, arts, and cultural fields in Richland and Lexington counties.

What is C3?

C3 was established in fall 2009 by nine funding partners in the Midlands to encourage the development of a more effective, efficient and innovative nonprofit sector. This pilot program is designed to support innovative new partnerships among nonprofits—from deeper partnership and collaboration and up to strategic mergers.  C3 provides a Technical Assistance Team comprised of professionals with experience in nonprofit work to help organizations implement collaborations.

How does C3  work?

The Team will provide:
  • Assessment of its current operations and the quality and function of existing collaborations.
  • Development of specific recommendations for enhanced collaborations, cost efficiencies and strategic restructuring opportunities that will enhance the ability of the organization to serve clients effectively and function better financially during difficult economic times.
  • Guidance to implement recommendations including:
    • Outsourcing of services (example – contract with another organization for property management or client case  management).
    • Drafting legal agreements, policies and procedures.
    • Enacting new fees for services or assuming administrative functions of another organizations for a fee.
    • Revising marketing materials or developing an outreach strategy to launch a new collaboration and to increase community awareness
  • Implementation of strategic restructuring opportunities including advanced facilitated discussions between organizations.
