Community Impact
United Way partnered with key organizations to research the most pressing issues in this region and developed a community assessment of the findings called "Facing Facts." As a result of this extensive research, staff and volunteers have been redirected to focus on issues that have been identified as critical in our community. By organizing prioritized issues into separate councils, volunteers can become more closely involved with specific concerns and greater results can be achieved. Thirty community volunteers will serve as stewards in each council. The four community councils are:
- Building Strong Families, Individuals and Children
- Creating Quality Education, Job Preparation and Life Skills
- Promoting Health & Recovery
- Securing Food, Shelter, Safety & Transportation
The councils also draft an annual Investment Plan proposing where undesignated United Way dollars will be allocated. The Investment Plan also serves as a guide to community organizations and foundations as to where specific funds are needed to address specific issues and helps agencies design programs that achieve solid results in the lives of people they serve.
