Success by Six

The local Success by 6 was created in 1996 as a long-term collaborative effort with a mission to ensure that every child in the Midlands is healthy, safe, nurtured and ready to succeed in school by age six.

Rooted in the understanding that the earliest years are critical to human development, Success by 6 has established committees and is working on projects to fulfill its mission. Also, ensuring that quality early childhood services are available and continued requires a long-term commitment from families, service providers, policymakers, businesses, educators and civic leaders.

The initiative's goals include:
  • Raise public awareness and educate the community on the importance of early childhood development and school readiness.
  • Establish community partnerships with government, private agencies, religious groups, schools, businesses, medial institutions, civic and service groups, foundations and neighborhood residents to find new ways to work together to prepare children to be successful in school.
  • Identify new resources to expand or initiate programs that have documented successful school readiness outcomes for children.
  • Advocate for policies and resources that give all children and their families access to family-friendly services needed for children to be ready for school and successful in life.
The Success by 6 initiative provides a structure to encourage people and organizations to work together for the benefit of children. This initiative offers unique opportunities for collaborations and partnerships among the public and private sectors. These collaborations and partnerships represent our community's commitment to doing what it takes to help the youngest members of our community achieve success.
