Volunteer Week Call for Projects

Volunteering isn’t just a force for good here in the Midlands—it’s also a path to meaningful connection. That’s why United Way is amplifying the opportunities to get involved through our Volunteer Center, so Midlands residents can forge meaningful ties as they forge a more resilient community. Will you join us?

Submit a Project Proposal

Could your nonprofit use help completing a project? Let us help you check it off your list!

Submit your service project proposal to United Way by March 1, 2023 to have your needs matched with local volunteers eager to help fulfill your needs during Volunteer Week which takes place from April 17-22.

  1. General Project Guidelines

    • All agencies must designate a leader/representative to be present during the time the volunteer group is there (preferably the volunteer coordinator or whoever is organizing this project). This leader is responsible for greeting the volunteer group, leading the group on the project, and remaining with the group for the duration of the project.
    • All agencies are responsible for obtaining and paying for any supplies needed to complete the project. For example: if your volunteers need flowers, soil, and gardening tools to help plant your garden, your agency must provide these supplies prior to the project date.
    • Please provide bottled water for your in-person volunteers!

  2. FAQs

How will I know when volunteers sign up for my project?

Once volunteers register for your project, you will receive an email notification from the Volunteer Center. This will prompt you to log into your account to view the volunteer’s information. If the volunteer group does not fill all your volunteer spots, your project will remain open until all spots have been filled then it will be marked as full. United Way will send you a list of your volunteers the week prior to your project.

What if I need to cancel my project?

If you absolutely must cancel your project, please contact any volunteer group that may have signed up as well as Becky Morrison at volunteer@uway.org or 803-733-5419 ASAP. Volunteers that participate in Volunteer Week are very motivated to participate in the day and we do not want to disappoint them. By letting us know as soon as possible, we can do our best to match those volunteers with another project, so they still have an opportunity to give back!

If I submit a project, am I guaranteed a volunteer group?

We do everything we can to fill our Volunteer Week projects, but every year there are a few projects that go unfilled. Your project is still valuable to our community and we will work with you to try and match a volunteer group to come out and complete it.

I have a project, but my organization needs help with the supplies to make this project happen (ie: paint, tools, etc.)

Let us know in the comments box when you submit your project. We’ll do our best to find a group that can help out.

I still have a few questions, who can I call?

Give Becky Morrison a call at 803-733-5419 or send her an email at volunteer@uway.org

Volunteer Week 2022

Last year, volunteers completed over 34,000 volunteer hours!

Our community showed up in a big way during last year's Volunteer Week. From lending a hand by painting transitional housing and writing letters to foster moms to getting their hands dirty in the garden and and cleaning shared spaces to help make the Midlands, the place we call home, beautiful.

Get started today!

At United Way, we value our community partners and service providers who give good and make the Midlands a better place for us all. We also understand how hard such meaningful nonprofit work can be and how quickly that to-do list can grow.

That's why we believe connected communities are caring communities. As part of our Strategic Impact Plan, we’re getting more Midlands residents involved with our work as volunteers. Because when we unite in the service of a common cause, nonprofit organizations and those they serve who are in need benefit—and our community grows closer.
