Darkness to Light & Mandated Reporter Training

United Way of the Midlands Youth & Resiliency Training Series continues with Darkness to Light and Mandated Reporter Training. Lead by Sarah Goode, Community Engagement Coordinator with Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands…

Darkness to Light’s Steward of Children® is an evidence-informed, two-hour training that teaches adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Additionally, the training is approved for two hours of continuing education for nurses, social workers, and childcare professionals.

Child Maltreatment and Mandatory Reporting: Recognizing and Responding to Child Sexual Abuse reviews the terms, prevalence, myths and realities of sexual assault. It also addresses possible indicators of child sexual abuse and mandatory reporting policies and procedures. The session ends with interactive scenarios for participants to practice supporting survivors and determining when and if to make a mandatory report.

Two hours of professional development CEUs are available for social workers, nurses, dentists and dental hygienists, childcare professionals and legal professionals.

How it works: To complete this training, participants must watch two 40-minute Darkness to Light videos online and participate in a two-hour virtual follow-up discussion.

Registrants will receive a link to the videos and must view the videos prior to their discussion session, which also includes Mandated Reporter Training. To gain entrance to the discussion session, participants must upload a Certificate of Completion verifying they viewed the videos.

How to sign up: Participants may register for this training by choosing from one of the two discussion sessions below.
