Learning with Leaders Series: Small Biz, Big Dreams in Five Points

Learning with Leaders 2023

Join us for the next installment of the YLS Learning with Leaders series in partnership with All Good Books, on June 7 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Tickets are $10 for YLS donors and $15 for guests, which covers heavy hors d'oeuvres and one drink ticket.

This installment, Small Biz, Big Dreams in Five Points focuses on small business development and entrepreneurship. A panel of small business owners from the Five Points area will gather to share their stories and adventures in starting and/or owning a small business. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn a bit more about this arts district as well as discover more opportunities to support local businesses and give back. In many ways, the growing business sector in Five Points is pushing towards becoming an innovation and arts district.

The panel will be moderated by Caroline Crowder with GrowCo and panelists include:

  • Amy Beth Franks with The Gourmet Shop
  • Dr. Laura Boccanfuso with Van Robotics
  • Tzima Brown with Sunrise Artisan Bath and Body
  • Sean McCrossin with Drip and Scoopy Doo

Learn more about the panel here.

YLS's philanthropic focus is education so each guest is encouraged to bring at least one school supply for teachers to be collected by a Midlands Reading Consortium representative. This will benefit our Ready, Set, Supply campaign for educators. Those who bring supplies will be entered into a raffle thanks to some local small businesses that donated items. Part of the proceeds for this event will go towards supporting YLS education outreach.

To close the event, Dr. Shirley Ann Smith, local author, educator and arts advocate will do a short reading from her book, Navigating the Labyrinth: Teacher Empowerment Through Instructional Leadership.
