Ways to Give to United Way

You have spent years supporting your community. You have invested in lives, changing them for the better as our neighbors benefited from your generosity — becoming more safe, secure and stable. You have been able to give to a cause most dear to your heart and had peace of mind knowing your dollars were being put to use to meet the greatest needs in our community.  Let us help you continue that support!

Most people are familiar with giving via payroll deduction, credit card or check. Did you know there are many other ways you can make your gift?

Here are just a few:

Did you know that taxpayers 70.5 years and older are required to take annual distributions from an IRA? These are ultimately subject to taxation. But there’s a way to save on your taxes while supporting our community.

With rollover contributions from your IRA, you can donate up to $100,000 each year to charitable organizations such as United Way — completely tax-free. Simply let your broker or fund manager know you’d like to donate all or part of your QCD to United Way.

We suggest beginning this process no later than December 23 for year-end giving.

Transferring appreciated stocks allows you to avoid paying capital gains tax while deducting the full amount of your gift from your tax return. To initiate a stock transfer, or if you have specific questions, use our contact form below to get in touch with a member of our team.

Establishing a will is important for everyone and can be useful regardless of estate size. It can also be a way to support the people and causes important to you. Having a will ensures that your wishes are known.

BEQUEST: A bequest is the act of leaving something in your will. Click here to learn more about the different types of bequests and recommended language.  As with any decision involving your assets, we urge you to seek the advice of your professional counsel when considering a gift to United Way of the Midlands.

ENDOWMENTS: When you make an endowment gift, you create a steady stream of annual income to forever support United Way’s critical work. Endowment gifts may be made at any time, or can be created as part of an estate plan.
