United Way of the Midlands presented its 2017 Spirit of the Midlands Award for Corporate Leadership to AgFirst Farm Credit Bank at the organization’s Major Firms CEO Breakfast on May 2.

The bank was recognized for its overall spirit of giving through contributions of time, leadership and resources in support of United Way’s work to fight for the health, education and financial stability of everyone in the Midlands.

“Whether supporting our neighbors affected by the flood or helping children succeed in school, we know United Way will maximize our employees’ contributions to provide help where it is needed most,” said Tim Amerson, president and CEO of AgFirst.

AgFirst’s philanthropic efforts in the past year included contributing more than $84,000 to United Way, an increase in employee giving of 144% over the previous year. AgFirst employees volunteered more than 675 hours this year with United Way’s flood recovery efforts and United Way Community Impact Partners such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia and Harvest Hope Food Bank, as well as many more organizations.

“Partners like AgFirst and their generous employees make it possible for us to take on challenges and tackle important problems across the Midlands,” said United Way President and CEO Mac Bennett. “We are thankful for their support”
