What is Always United?
Always United was formed in 2017 with 100 charter members who understand that just because they are retired, their work isn't done. Our members want to do something meaningful with a lifetime of expertise, and Always United provides the perfect outlet for that experience. We offer social events, community-building and volunteer activities, and mentorship opportunities. No donation is required to join, and everyone is welcome!
Find meaning through volunteering for good causes! United Way’s Volunteer Center offers many opportunities for Always United volunteers to match your skills with the unique needs in your community.
- Helping first graders learn to read through Midlands Reading Consortium
- Serving hot meals to individuals experiencing homelessness
- Teaching life skills, such as gardening, to children in foster care
- Giving companionship to hospice patients
Finding transportation alternatives can be intimidating, confusing, and overwhelming. The lack of transportation prevents our seniors from maintaining independence and getting to necessary health care appointments. For over a year, Always United members have worked as part of AARP and Feonix Mobility Rising's Mobility Leadership Council to help inform the development of a new pilot program called Ride@50+. This innovative program called Ride@50+, developed by AARP and powered by Feonix – Mobility Rising, is a one-stop shop for access to local transportation options.
